First Scrimmage Defense

I have a question that nags at me about Hager. He is being touted by Bennett and most observers as the real deal at LB. I want to believe it.

However, nothing I saw last year suggested he was going to be a great linebacker, to me. I can think of 3 possible explanations for the high hopes for him this year:

1. I missed stuff last year.
2. He has made a quantum leap in his ability/understanding.
3. There's a lot of wishful thinking going on, like we had for Trahan last year.

If it's #2, to what can we attribute it. I hope it's #2. My next preference is #1. Make me feel better about the #3 part.

Please, no one interpret this as a flame on Hager, or anyone else. Just an honest question, having lived through a few hopeful Augusts that didn't always pan out. (As evidence of the last sentence, I went to Cal for the Bend Over, and thought we would win.)
