Simo Kulmaviita

Bearstruth: Simo- congrats on the commitment to Baylor. What stood out to you about Baylor?

Simo: I've always liked the way Baylor plays football. They are known for putting guys in the NFL. Of all the coaches I talked to, Baylor's coaches seemed like the most professional and that is why I think it is the best choice for me. I know football is huge in Texas, and that is something that I definitely want to experience. I am also friends with a family close by so I know I have some support also outside the school.

Bearstruth: You mentioned Baylor putting guys in the NFL. Under Briles, they have had 5 offensive linemen drafted and two of those in the first round. Was that a crucial thing for you in making your decision?

Simo: Playing in the big league is something that I've always dreamed about. But in the past there has only been one Finnish guy who has played D-1 football before, so for me that is already going to be a huge achievement. I am going to focus on my college career first before even thinking about playing in the league.

Bearstruth: Watching your HUDL film, you seem to have some nastiness (which I am sure Baylor fans will love). You go a little after the whistle I noticed. Where did this aggressive streak come from?

Simo: I've always liked to run in to things, football is something that I really enjoy. I don't know, maybe it's some of that Viking blood running through our veins.

Bearstruth: What kind of strength numbers do you put up and was the strength and conditioning program at Baylor an important part of your decision?

Simo: I had to deal with a couple minor injuries during this off-season so my numbers aren't where I want them to be. I am cleared to go now and I've been hitting the weights with the team. I want to be in the best physical shape that I can, and that is why I chose Baylor.

Bearstruth: What do you want to study at Baylor? What would you like to tell Baylor fans about yourself?

Simo: I'm thinking about majoring in business. I have a plumber's degree from Finland so one option would be to set up my own plumbing company.

I'd like to thank you guys and the whole Baylor university for everything. I'm looking forward to being a part of the Baylor family.

Bearstruth: Thanks Simo
