Since being honored as a first team all-state selection his senior year in Mississippi, Gemonee Brown doesn't feel that he has received the respect that he deserves as a player. Even as a full qualifier out of Petal High School in 2011, he was lightly recruited and only received offers from FCS schools.
Brown decided to head the JUCO route immediately to hopefully garner a little more attention. Now, after spending only a semester at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi, Brown is being looked at by several schools as a defensive tackle for the 2014 class.
"Miami wants to bring me in on a visit in January," Brown said. "BYU, Michigan State and Tennessee's old staff planned to visit me but of course that changed with the new staff."
Brown has also heard from Penn State, N.C. State, Oregon State as well as Baylor. Baylor is the only school looking at him for the 2013 class.
"We talk once a week. They're saying that a few guys are ahead of me now, but I'm definitely in the mix with them. I love Baylor; everything about it. I believe I would be a piece to a much better defense."
He is now just waiting on the call from the coaches to tell him he has an offer.
"I would commit on the spot."
While Brown is ready to hit the turf for a BCS school, there is something about Baylor that has really caught his eye.
"Baylor wasn't just a one-year wonder with RGIII. They have legit talent that I believe can compete with anyone in the country. Both DTs are graduating. Waco is a good town and that coach Kaz (Kazadi) is a program changer."
Brown will have three years to play three if he were to sign with Baylor and enroll for the Spring semester.
Bearstruth will continue to monitor Brown and his recruitment closely.
