  • I would take this in a heartbeat.

  • Texas will lose three, maybe four games. Iowa State and Kansas State will be better than those predictions and TCU and West Virginia will not be that high IMO.

It is hard to gauge what TCU and WVU will do when they are playing good teams every week. K-State will be beating some ass next year. I do not think Baylor will be a pushover like some think. I do think Texas looks a lot like Texas in 2011 as well.

  • That would be a good season, all things considered. However, I wouldn't be all that surprised by anything between 5-7 and 8-4.

Good point. I could actually see us winning 7 or 8 games this year.

  • 1. WVU - surprise winner
    2. OU - up and down again - OU wants to play smash mouth, ball control. Tough to do in Big 12
    3. K State - Will they repeat as good as last year? Maybe not better but very good.
    4. OSU - OSU has to be proven wrong. They are a great program now.
    5. UT - lots of talent, lots of talent lots of talent
    6. Baylor - should beat UT for the 3rd straight year. 5-6 freshman will play a lot
    7. TCU - depth is hurt. Intensity of schedule will be more than they thought
    8. TT - No momentum
    9. Iowa State
    10. Kansas

  • 1.) Oklahoma - Let's just hope for the sake of the Big 12's reputation that Big Game Bob doesn't get to a BCS game and blow it again. Landry's already being called the best QB in the conference. Time to prove it.
2.) Kansas State - Casey Klein is awesome. Bill Snyder is a great coach. They could win the conference this year.
3.) West Virginia - Loaded at skill positions. Second year in Holgersen's system.
4.) Texas - If they have a QB with a pulse they'll compete for a conference title. I still think Ash sucks though.
5.) TCU - They're lucky they have some solid offensive starters coming back. They lost a lot on defense, but when does defense really matter in the Big 12 anyways?
6.) Oklahoma State - What is our deal with these guys? I just don't get it.
7.) Baylor - We'll be better than people think. Very level playing field this year so we have potential to finish higher. Defense must be improved.
8.) Tech - Can't envision them doing anything. Again. Doege is pretty solid though. Wonder if this is the "do or die" year for Tubbs.
9.) Iowa State - One of those teams that always ends up finishing higher than expected. Rhodes is a very good coach.
10.) Kansas - They are terrible.

Just my assessment. Top 7 are all bowl eligible.

  • Not giving up on 9-3 with the losses @OU @WVU and 1 more.

  • 1) West Virginia - I'm sorry, but their offense is going to go crazy this year. Passing and running QB, home run RB, several WRs... they're lethal.
    2) Oklahoma - defense will be better next year. Offense will still be solid. They lost close games last year that they'll win more of this year.
    3) Kansas State - Bill Snyder is a great coach. They could win the conference this year.
    4) Texas - maybe the best defense in the country. Probably the deepest backfield in the country running behind a solid OL. QB is a C+ player at best.
    5) Oklahoma State - Just a
    6) TCU - would have had them way up there if they hadn't lost so many in weird ways. I don't like him, but Patterson can coach with the best of them. Can't count them out.
    7) Baylor - We'll be better than people think. Will make a bowl.
    8) Iowa State - One of those teams that always ends up finishing higher than expected. Rhodes is a very good coach.
    9) Tech - lots at stake for Tubbs up there.
    10) Kansas - Blowouts galore.

I wouldn't sleep on SMU in our opening game. We should be fine, but we better hit 'em in the mouth in the 1st quarter. If we do, we enter conferene at 3-0.

After that, I agree that Kansas, Iowa State (not easy), and Tech (will need our defense to be respectable to win) are BY FAR the best chances at 3 more wins and bowl eligibility.

Otherwise, the Big 12 is going to be a really strong conference this year.

  • Had a buddy text me today out of the blue and asked how many games I thought we would win.

    SMU
    SHSU
    ULM
    --
    Iowa State
    Kansas
    Texas Tech

    and one upset.

If we win 7 we show we can sustain bowl games and we will be bringing in another great recruiting class. At that point you have the ball rolling and don't have to worry about talent gaps that stop that ball.

    Homer alert......

I think we beat Texas and give KSU another run. We had them beat last year and our defense blew it. With a better defense we should beat them. We match up well and they cannot pass.

  • I'm feeling rather bullish on the Bears.

    You like bear mace, brah?

    BearMace

  • I have Baylor going at least 8-4!

you must get your mind right. These are not the same ole Bears and not the same ole Baylor!

    RealBear

  • CAB can build an offense. And combined with the second year PB's defensive coaching, I feel we are going to surprise some folks. Again.

Agree 100%. It's funny seeing every body on the national scene saying "how are the Bears going to replace all that they lost!" Do they have any idea who our coach is? I'm not concerned about the offense in the least. These are Briles players. No more Morriss guys. If CAB brought them in, they bring something to the table for sure.

  • I still put us at 6-6.

We have one less home game this year, and we have OU and UT on the road. Not to mention on the road at WVU.

(We also lost school record holders at all three skill positions, and 2 linemen to the NFL).

Just get to a bowl game, and keep the thing rolling.

That buddy sounds like a smart guy. I think OSU is in the same boat plus the game is in Waco. I know the bears haven't had their best games against the cowboys but I'm calling the upset in that game.

  • No predictions for order of finish, but a few thoughts:

KSU returns Klein, which is big. However, they won a TON of nail biters last year and snuck up on folks. Odds say they don't win all the close ones this year.

OU will not be as vulnerable through the air with Mike Stoops back as DC. OU's best recruit was losing Venables.

UT doesn't have a QB. They are thin at WR and OL. Great defense.

Too many are sleeping on Tech. They limped home last year because of a stunning rash of injuries. Don't be misled into believing the end of the year will represent their '12 season.

I suppose I should give OSU the benefit of the doubt after losing Weeden/Blackmon. They replaced Robinson/Dez and got better...same with Fields and that other big WR they had. I'm just wondering if they can do it again.

WV will be good and I think is OU's challenger for the title.

TCU will be good, but their ceiling depends on whether their defense can return to form.

ISU will be solid and their QBing got better after midseason change.

Our Bears are a question. I think we'll score, although I'm not convinced we can outscore as many as last year. I have faith in Bennett and believe our defense will be better, but not a quantum leap without a pass rush. I would be pleased with 7-5.

  • People seem to forget that TCU got back their DC that turned out all those super defenses. I put the Frogs a couple of notches higher.

  • It sure looks like, top to bottom, the Big 12 will be stacked this year. And if Clemson and FSU join in 2013, we are looking at possibly the strongest conference in the country.

WVU, OU are both likely to be top 10 in 2012, with OSU, KSU, and possibly TCU being in the mix and being highly ranked. UT has the talent to turn it around in any given year, and don't count out the Bears just yet for breaking into the top 25. Even ISU and Tech will be strong for being considered lower tier teams. Probably the only team most consider bad is KU.

This fall will be tons of fun if the Bears can win our non-conf games (and SMU won't be easy), hold serve on KU and Tech, and then win at least two more out of TCU, ISU, UT, and KSU. If we can upset OU, OSU, or WVU, that will just be gravy. So I will be happy with 7 and 5, estatic with 8 and 4 or better. But a bit disappointed with 6 and 6, and distraught with 5 and 7 or worse.
