ummmmm, what does this mean?

is there a simple way to explain "equestrian" as a sporting event? I don't understand it?

I assume it's similar to what we see in the summer Olympics, but I'm not sure on that either. I tried finding something online about the event, but couldn't.

I just like the pants.

Wow! I assume the students buy their own horses? I really wouldn't mind getting a brief rundown about it if you don't mind letting us know what your friend says.

Baylor provides the horses they compete with. Big money sport that has big money fans.

I'm a commercial banker and one of my client runs a training and borading center for english style/dressage horses. She says on a regular occassion she flies to Belgium, picks out a young horse from her breeder, pays ~$75k for the untrained horse and then spends $9k to FedEx the horse back (not kidding).

She will then spend the next 18-24 months training and will end up selling the horse for multiple six figures to professional riders. Her best horse in the time she's been doing this went for $750k.

If we win the equestrian title, apparently we will have a legitimate shot at the women's cup title (currently 3rd). Men's not so much (currently 44th). I guess they split them like this now.

These rankings give equal weight to all sports regardless of how high profile, or more importantly, how many other schools are competing. So it's sort of dumb when you have sports like wrestling, where the same 2 or 3 schools are winning it every year and they are getting the same points as a basketball or football title.

I think there needs to be a weighted point scale based on the number of competing schools for each sport. I emailed someone with the cup a while back and they said they would consider it (not likely).

EDIT: Apparently equestrian is not part of this yet, sooo let's go Tennis and Softball! Also, apparently they did use my suggestion, and grouped sports into A and B sections this year. That's a start. See the scoring section. Only using the top 10 I think is a little extreme as lots of top 25 finishes should be rewarded as well. We didn't get any credit for the great football year in this because we were just outside the top 10.
