"Secondly, our sources also state a Big 12 Tier 3 Network for the schools without the pull of a Texas or OU could form and would likely mean an additional $4 million to $6 million for those institutions. This would ensure constant programming for either Fox Sports or ESPN to show in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and other conference markets. Adding two ACC schools would further the reach of this network."

So a network of ISU, KSU, KU, WVU, TCU, Tech and Baylor could be worth more than the Big 10 Network? Just trying to get my arms around this. Thanks.

You forgot OSU and maybe FSU and CU as well.

I doubt KU would participate. They are making about $8M as it is now.

My fault on OSU. But he's saying what it would be worth without those two and then says they would add to to the value, no?

    Your point is?

He gave an estimate of what an 8 team Big 12 network might be then said that adding 2 ACC schools might increase it.

Are you going to be the Dumbass Aggy Troll of the Day?

  • so then, the new SEC deal will be $30 million per team (with a championship game and 14 teams), right? I cannot imagine the sec deal being less than our deal - maybe our Tier3 rights would pay us more, but SEC keeps their Tier3 if I am not mistaken...?

KU would probably keep their basketball, but I bet they would sell the rest of their inventory to the Big 12 network. I bet the LHN would have some excess inventory they would sell.

  • Not sure about that aspect of the LHN NOVA. I'm just assuming here, not a deep understanding, but I used to get the LHN and they were struggling to provide content. They had interviews with AD secretaries, and a runway show. I'm not sure if they'd have anything left over to sell. Again, just my perception from having access to the channel.

How much is the per team revenue from the B1G Network?

No, the Big 10 network pays out much more than that.

Gotcha. Saw the other post. So those 8 teams would equate to about two-thirds of the Big 10's income from 12 teams. Thanks.

    Hmm....nice try.

Assuming the high end of the range for the Big 12:
    $6M * 8 teams = $48M
    $7.9M * 12 teams = $94.8M
    48/94.8 = 50.63%

  • Also, here's a link to a listing of all of the conference payouts.

It actually shows the Big 10 network paying out even more than that.

Probably right there. Math has never been my best subject. Still trying to find which one is my best subject...lol.

But isn't the $7.9 million you cited for 11 teams in 2010? How much does the other article you linked say it is? Thanks.

I believe that was this last year's payout but not sure. The article says this:

Second-tier rights: $2.8 billion, Big Ten Network, 25 years through 2031-32

Not sure if the distribution is even across the contract. If so, then it's $112,000,000 per year, split up to ~$9.3M per team.

  • One reason the B1G deal is so big is that they are the only conference to monetize every single member's First, Second, and Third tier rights. No other conference has accomplished this although the Pac 12 is close, and the new ACC deal does it for all practical purposes (it includes 3rd tier rights for hoops and football).

If the SEC accomplishes a true 3 tier deal I could easily see their annual payout being $30-35 million. Which will be a good deal more than everyone else. which will make aggy so giddy until they figure out that Bama, Florida, Tennessee Auburn and LSU are still going to outspend them by $20+ million and UT and OU will be making more with their individualized third tier deals.

Which brings us to the B12. As Brian has hinted at repeatedly, the B12 deal could end up closer to $25 million per year post-expansion. And then the non-UT/OU/FSU schools could group their 3rd tier rights into a Big 12 network and see another $2-3 million on top of that. And that means that Baylor would be in a very good position even relative to the Pac and B1G.

  • Greetings from an FSU fan. Lots of smoke over on our 247 board about this...some think it'll never happen, but most (myself included) are cautiously optimistic. A recent poll on another Seminole website showed 95% of Nole fans approve of a move to the Big 12. Our contempt for the ACC is a major driver here (Carolina centric rulings, sub par officiating, asinine focus on basketball over football, etc), but the potential financial payout is a major factor as well, obviously.

Here's hoping we'll see y'all in Tallahassee in the very near future...

    Cheers.

Hopefully you mean Big 12 and not B1G? And we are stoked at the possibility. I think it's gonna happen. But everything between now and the application acceptance has to be carefully scripted to avoid litigation. Unfortunately we've become pretty good a reading the signs.
