I know we are probably not getting in the tourney... but the BPI system by ESPN is designed specifically to simulate the process that the NCAA tournament committee uses to select teams. We have a case for an at large bid against many who are considered "in" below us if this is truly representative of what the committee weighs and values.
Of course I haven't heard serious discussion of Stanford as being considered for a bid and they are 4 slots ahead of us.
We are #44
Check out the latest NCAA college basketball BPI rankings.
I think this BPI rating is a misleading byproduct of losing so many close games to good teams. No way we get in. Too many losses. Not enough quality wins.
However, it shows that if we would have just won a couple of those close games, we would be pretty "safe" as a 10-12 seed.
NO WAY we are getting in the tourny..

Could you imagine the meltdown on ESPN if we were picked? Vitale would have a heart attack and Knight an aneurysm. We could actually do the general basketball watching public a favor.
Dangit....why does this stuff show to get my hopes up? Arrrggggggh

I'd just be happy to make it in.
Don't get your hopes up, then feel great if BU does. How I look at it.
It is weird when you look at the various stats and rankings as an aggregate. We end up as higher ranked than most of the other bubble teams. And if the committee is serious about the non-con schedule being so important, it seems we would be considered. Some of those members have even previously stated the W/L record in those games isn't as big as even being willing to play that schedule.
As hard it is to believe I'm sure we'll be among the 10-15 teams discussed for the last spot and even though the numbers would be strong compared to some of the others, we all know we're heading to the NIT.
Can't blame them for trying to make an argument for an NCAA bid.

No doubt. When you look at the individual team rankings on the original link Ashley posted and compare our numbers with LaSalle, we should be in over them, but I don't believe that will happen. We have one more win against top 1-50 opponents, although we do have more losses since we played a lot more top teams. In these situations, it seems like they are favoring more wins against weaker competition.
Let me be clear that I don't think they would be terribly wrong in picking LaSalle over us as we had plenty of chances to not leave things in the hands of other people. Just interesting when you look at the numbers.
Uh ... Why be on that network to begin wiith as their contribution to NCAA mens basketball is all NIT as soon as they broadcast their last conf championship game. CBS
