Gonzaga almost lost to Washington State last night, but they pulled it out 71-69. I watched the first half. WSU played with so much intensity. I am impressed that the Zags beat them. I still hold out some hope that Baylor gets their act together by that game and we play them tough at their place. Washington State is not terrible (96th by KenPom), but they are 5-4 with no wins over a top 100 opponent.
Oklahoma State beat up a solid South Florida (103rd) team on their home floor 61-49. Smart, Forte, Jurick, Brown and Kamari Murphy all impressed me for OSU. LeBryan Nash looks terribly disinterested. He had 6 points and 4 of those were free throws in the closing minutes. His body language is bad. Marcus Smart and Forte are looking great and Jurick had 14 rebounds in 24 minutes against a physical frontline for South Florida.
interesting notes from Jason King- many Baylor related
Kentucky's backcourt blues lead off Jason King's weekly look at the national scene in college basketball.
Coach with the best win: Scott Drew, Baylor over Kentucky
Coach with the worst (two) losses: Scott Drew, Charleston and Northwestern over Baylor
Iowa State down to Iowa right now in the 2nd half. Man the Big12 is taking hits. Baylor needs to get its act together because the conference RPI sure isn't going to help us this year.
Don't worry, Ashley, I'm sure we'll make a nice NIT run.
Melvin Ejim for ISU just shoved the ball in referee Mark Whitehead's chest after arguing a foul call and Whitehead let it go. He has a great temperament for a ref- one of the best around.
ISU goes down 80-71. Another body blow to the Big12. Not a great year for Big12 basketball. I may be coming around to X-factor's prediction of 3 teams get in. I still think 4-6 more likely but we better win some non-conference games this month.
Don't get too high on Mark Whitehead. In 2008(I think that was the year) he cheated us terribly in OK City against Texas in the Big 12 Tourney. Also he called a tech on Drew in Waco for just jumping up off the bench quickly when the other refs where much closer than he was.
did he do that Missouri game? I forgot about that. I do remember thinking his calls were bad against Kansas one year. But I think he's one of the better ones. The ones that stick out to me as terrible are:
Eades is pretty bad also.
I'm okay with:
The Waco game was also Texas. Whitehead was clearly favoring UT in both games. Higgins gets worse as each season comes and goes.
Whitney Hand of OU blew out her knee, again. Mrs. Landry Jones is done.
