Thursday night games USED to draw a ton of eyeballs. Now the NFL network has taken a huge slice out of the pie. Better be hoping it is Buffalo vs. Kansas City that weekend or no one will be watching our game
by the way, good idea to book hotel rooms today before hotels get wind of this. I just booked Hotel Indigo for $129.
Sucks cause I was off shift Saturday but not thurs and Friday oh well...
If you put a consitant winning product on the field people will show up. If we are 6-1 or 7-0 they will be there. Now if we are 4-3 probably not.
I already filled out my time off for thurs and Friday. I plan to be at tailgate by lunch.
If that scenario played out and OU was 7-0, 6-1 or so, this Thursday night game eliminates ANY chance we had at Gameday...
Oh well, Game Day will have to come when we are 11-0 and closing out The Case in style vs. UT!
We had a good crowd in 2011 on Friday night for TCU. If we're 6-1 or 7-0 it won't make a difference which day it's on people will be there. Beides, Thursday is the start of the weekend anyways right?
I thought that I remembered a Thursday night game a few years ago so I went back and looked at the official BU website. We opened the 2008 season with a Thursday night game against Wake Forest. Kirby Freeman started but Robert (He was not RGIII at the time) made his debut. By the way, the attendance was 30,633.
If we are undefeated and ranked with OU coming into town on ESPN... It will be sold out.
yeah, and we had a SUCK crowd for the OU game that same year, and it was a prime time SATURDAY game when the Bears were 6-3, playing a top 5 opponent.
i really hope i'm proven wrong, but i've seen our fans drop the ball on stuff like this, so often, i've got zero confidence this OU game will be any better.
I think Kstate, OU, etc. have proven to our fans that our football team shows up and doesn't **** the bed against big teams. May have taken a couple times but 3rd time is the charm. 6-3 is a lot different than 7-0 rolling into a game like this. We could be the top 5 team. Think about that.
Hope so. We seem to have plenty of sooner fans here in Waco. Seems no matter where I sit in the Case the season ticket holders behind me are always Sooner fans who cheer for Baylor every game but that one.
Pro Ecclesia, Pro Mundus
Tough comparison, we had no expectations going into that season. We did not know what we had in Robert and 2007 was a train wreck.
Athletics Marketing. They don't like University Marketing stepping into their territory. And neither has any power over Student Activities. You'd have to direct ideas to Starr to get anything done like that.
Fewer sooner fans.
Tighten it up, X.
I disagree that we had a suck crowd for the OU game. Sure a lot of OU fans traveled to see their top 5 team play but that was a great atmosphere much like K-State last year and the place was absolutely packed. I don't think a large contingent of traveling fans means its a suck crowd.
That is NASCAR weekend up at TMS also. Game on Thursday, races on Friday - Sunday. SWEET!
I just mean promoting this game in general. Canceling class would obviously be a huge deal, but professors can be encouraged to not take attendance on a Friday after a huge football game by the administration.
This for me too
If BU is 6-1 or 7-0 it will be sold out. Gus Johnson, Erin Andrews, you name it, they'll be here.
the atmosphere, inside the stadium, was outstanding, but we MAY have had 40,000 people there (and that includes the 5,000-6,000 that OU brought). the actual butts in seats, for Baylor fans, was abysmal that day, just like it was for K-State this year. you are spot on about the folks that WERE actually there though. they were loud, rowdy, and made it feel like there were more people there (same w/ K-State in 2012), but it was far from "absolutely packed" (BU site has attendance at 40,281 for OU (2011) and 38,029 for KSU (2012)...that's tix sold and not actual bodies in the stadium).
Willis, i agree that 7-0 is different than 6-3, but in what world is a bowl elligible Baylor team, 9 games into the season, with a Top 5 ranked conference rival in town, not enough to get Baylor fans excited about a game enough to get close to 40,000 of them there...for a Saturday NIGHT game no less!!
i'd love nothing more than to be wrong, and i'll be the first to admit it, if i am. I've just seen our fans not show up to games like this too often to believe this one will be any different. I'd venture a guess that Thursday night games are tough for ANYONE, when it comes to attendance, and even moreso for us, since we struggle so much when conditions are ripe for a good crowd.

okay, i guess i'll just cross my fingers that we have one of the 3 best starts in the HISTORY of our program then...
I don't know, Ryan. Many people didn't think we had a chance to win this game. We thought that OU would steam-roll us -just as they always had, we would prove that we really didn't belong, and that RGIII's Heisman budding trophy bid would be completely over.
Just being the devil's advocate here, but who would want to show up/take two days off of work to see that?

No, no, no. If you give students the day off on Friday, they will go home. Nope. Gotta go to class on Friday, so might as well stick around and go to the game.
No class Thursday would be nice. I know I'll be skipping regardless.
true- excellent point
and therein lies the problem, Brooks, and the reason i'm not confident we'll show up worth a damn.
i also don't get the "if we're 7-0 or 6-1..." stuff people are throwing out there. I really hope we are, and i honestly believe we can be, but i think that we've started a season 6-1, or better, exactly twice in the modern era, and maybe 3 times, EVER (been playing football since like 1900). also, is being 7-0 or 6-1 gonna change the fact that we've only beaten OU ONCE in the history or our two programs, and been blown out in a majority of them? is a 5-2 Baylor team any less deserving of a sell out in that game than a 6-1 or 7-0 team? apparently 6-3 wasn't enough to drag the fans off their couches to see a game two years ago...
