Anyone feel like researching/ providing a summary of the Big 12 bowl payouts, and the resulting total net profit for Baylor?
Step 1 - win lots of game in November/Decemer
Step 2 - ???
Step 3 - Profit
Bowl payouts go to the conference, not to the individual schools. The schools receive a travel subsidy, but that is really just a net offset to costs.
All of that said, here are the bowl payouts to the conference:
Holiday Bowl - Baylor - $2.0MM
Meineke Bowl - Texas Tech - $1.7MM
Pinstripe Bowl - West Virginia - $1.8MM
Alamo Bowl - Texas - $3.0MM
BWW Bowl - TCU - $3.0MM
Liberty Bowl - Iowa State - $1.4MM
Heart of Dallas Bowl - OKST - $1.1MM
Cotton Bowl - Oklahoma - $3.6MM
Fiesta Bowl - Kansas State - $17MM
Total net payout of $34.6MM to the Big 12. Split 10 ways, that's $3.46MM per school.
One thing to note: OU getting bumped out of a BCS bowl directly cost the Big 12 about $15.9MM, or each team about $1.5MM (offsetting the difference between the Heart of Dallas Bowl, the final bowl tie-in, and the BCS payout of $17MM).
Perfect - thanks!! Not a bad new year bonus. I presume everyone in the conference at least still comes out ahead once you take out all the total expenses involved with being in a bowl.
Is there any tv revenue involved that is not included in the bowl payouts?
I think the Liberty would be negated but same difference.
Bowl TV revenue is rolled into the ESPN/ABC package we already receive.
There should be no "expenses", as the schools do receive a stipend/allotment for travel automatically that is NOT just rolled into the overall conference payout.
Ian said we got 1.2 million up front for bowl expenses. I think he said the payout was 2.2 million this year. Big 12 divides the $900,000.00
OU would not have gotten the entire bcs payout.
Explain. I never said the SCHOOL would get the payout, but the conference would....so I don't get what you're saying.
Yes, big 12 gets the bcs payout, but the 2nd bcs team of a conference doesn't get the full payout.
The payout for a 2nd school from the same conference is capped at 4-5MM as I recall.
It's $6MM. Took me awhile to find it, but I did.
Did not know that. Learn something new every day.
Where does the rest of the money go?
