I love Glasco and he's really really effective on the field, but he does have the tendency to have a Debbie Downer perspective on his life, position in the world etc. Negative after no "MVP" of Holiday bowl, a bit of carping when he got little PT as RSF and sophomore. Still, all that disappears when he steps on the field and he has a tendency to make others pessimistic at that point.
Very impressed with Sam Holl running sub 4.5- encouraging to see that kind of speed from one of our "slow" guys in the secondary.
He is a bit of a cry baby. He needs to grow up a little bit..
I think even CAB would list a really strong runner (like Robert's running ability) as a "nice to have". As long as they can be the 4.7-4.8 "smart" runner like Nick it's enough to make it go.
Agree. The difference is that guys catch Nick from behind and they didn't do that for RGIII. That added yards to the EOY totals and it probably created some tendency for defenses to overrun plays.
Given the #s we've heard on any of the 3 QBs in our system, I suspect we're already in the "nice to have" category anyway. After all, I've been watching Matt Schaub all year on the professional level. Glaciers move quicker.
Petty is our starter this Fall. I know people doubt him because he sat behind the leader of the #1 team in total offense and current holder of Baylor University Single Season Passing Yard record (broke Robert's)
But Petty is our guy. And I have NO doubt that he'll be awesome. I would put every dime I have that, barring injury, he will be our starter for game 1. No doubt at all.
Russell is an even less-proven commodity than Petty. It blows my mind that people think he's going to beat Petty out.
completely agree, Brooks!
i'm looking at this like i did last offseason. I almost hoped that Petty beat out Florence. Not because i didn't think that Florence could do an outstanding job of leading the offense, but because it meant that Petty was just so good that Briles had to play him. If Russell is our starter this year, it won't be because Petty sucked. It'll be because Russell is so good you can't not play him.
I don't think that a Briles coached team has had subpar QB play since he was at Stephenville.
Then you differ from our coaching staff.
The reason some people feel like Russell has a legitimate shot is because he does. Our staff is really high on him for a reason. They also have reasons for why they have doubted (and still have doubts) about Petty. This spring will tell the tale on whether Petty is capable and ready. The staff is kind of split on him at the moment.
I'm hoping Petty wins the job and excels. He has the physical tools and has been in the system. My money is on him at this point as well. But to state unequivocally that he's the starter and have "no doubt" that he'll be awesome is just saying too much.
Good insight Nek. Can you expand more on this?
T. Stephenson #PR 44.1 inches. http://t.co/wf22YNot -- Athletic Performance (@BU_Iron_Bear)
I'm pulling for Petty and I hope he can handle the pressure more now that he knows he's expected to be "the man", but the memory of him being so freaked out when he got thrown into the '11 Tech game that he fumbled the only snap he took and the coaches having to burn Nick's shirt is hard to shake.
@BU_Iron_Bear: Darius Jones #PR in 40 (4.42)!
Hello Clay Fuller! 4.34
Terrance Lloyd 4.54- fast DE
Nfl type speed
Wow! Any thoughts of him at safety?
Easily the most shocking result of the day to me. I confess that I go by the predisposition white guy = slow guy or that b/c he showed very good hands in the few chances he was given that Fuller was a "possession" receiver. 4.34 is hauling by anyone's standards.
As CAB would say, it's time for him to park his car!
