I'll be at every men's home basketball game from here on out, but I really don't see this season as being all that much fun. I am really disappointed in the team so far. I'll be there yelling and cheering them on regardless. Hope things come together and they surprise me.
I think you summed up what most of us feel. It doesn't look like a tourney team right now but the potential is there. Brady and Pierre have to shoot close to 50% from 3 for us to mask deficiencies as FWBear said in game thread.
I still contend our best lineup will be:
1- Pierre (35 min)
2- Brady (30 min)
3- Isaiah (30 min)
4- Rico (30 min)
5- Cory (30 min)
AJ (25 min)
Bello (10 min)
Franklin (10 min)
I would like to have seen Prince in one of those 8 slots but he must not be consistent enough in practice to warrant it.

This season is far enough along that we're beginning to get a glimpse of this team's identity - and it's troubling. We need to make they tourney, and that's certainly not a given.
Completely agree. There's some talent on the team, but the makeup is just not good. Austin, like most other "bigs" we've recruited is too soft and doesn't play defense. I wish Drew would do what Calipari does and just sit him until he decides he wants to defend. Jackson seems to struggle at times figuring out what to do with the ball, Brady is still in a funk, Cory disappears at times, AJ is AJ, Deuce looks uninterested right now, Franklin is a turnover machine and Rico is very spotty on defense. I love Rico's hustle though and he always seem to make something good happen even if it's a trade off of giving up an easy bucket now and then.
This team lacks on court leadership and plays down to the competition which will make for some bad losses. The way we're playing right now, I'd be shocked if we're higher than 5th in the conference. If the light comes on there's enough talent to be very good, but it hasn't yet. The only thing that may save us is that this looks like the weakest Big 12 basketball has been in a while.
The thing that is so frustrating is seeing the team in spurts give 100% effort. The few minutes they all look active on defense the team looks really good. When we actually set up on offense and pass and look to get an open shot this team looks really good. The problem is it doesn't happen very often in a game. The team looks lazy. Not sure I can say it any other way.
The talent is there, it will be a great coaching job if Drew can focus them into a top 4 Big 12 team. I think it implodes and we finsih in the bottom 3. You let Lamar hang around all game shows me you don't give a ****. Especially after the egg they laid against Northwestern.
Can someone tell me why our bigs play on the perimeter 90% of the time? It seems to me that purposely we are not using their height under the basket where it is an advantage.
It is very frustrating to see lazy mistakes or low iq basketball being played in spurts. There needs to be a consequence for making dumb decision (Pierre jacking up 3s in the first 5sec of shot clock, etc). I wish CSD would sub One guy at a time an not 3 or 4 at a time. If you make a dumb play, pull him out and sit him down for a minute and then put him back in.
Right now our players aren't being held accountable for a bad possession.
I don't think they are out there 90% of the time, but I understand what you are saying.
Others could answer better, but I think most of it is a consequence of our pick and roll game. Sets the big up to screen, and frees up space for the guards to flow into off of the screen. Definitely has its pros and cons.
biggest problem appears to be a very poor defense- giving up numerous open shots. probably zone is our best bet but right now our zone is not being run right - we seem to be lost half the time.
Drew does this a lot, especially after a turnover.
This team really isn't that fun to watch. Baylor hoops used to be my favorite team/sport. I would get so jacked for our games.
But the style of play, the personality of the team is really starting to wear on me. I think you see it in our attendance too.
It's great to have highly ranked recruiting classes, but when these guys don't live up to expectations and give half-ass efforts, it's a total beat down.
Drew did a great job of rebuilding the Baylor Basketball program and taking it to new heights. But I see a lot of question marks looking to the future of if he can win consistently.
This is the 6th year of really being able to judge his program. And it's just the epitome of inconsistency.
Teams grow and progress through the course of a season. See, e.g. 2012 Baylor Bear Football.
When this team plays well I think they are a lot of fun to watch and will be hard to beat. Colorado last year, and Kentucky and St. John's this year all demonstrate what we look like when we are on.
However, we are inconsistent and there likely will be ups and downs. I certainly share in some of that frustration.
I still have higher hopes for this team than some do, and I have more hope than I did for that team during Lace's senior season that tanked it pretty badly.
We absolutely have to go 4-0 vs Tech and TCU, and we need to beat everyone at home save Kansas and someone else we will drop. 6-3 at home could make things dicey come tourney time depending on the road record.
I think we will get in as a middle seeded team (8-12 range). There is not a team in America that wants to face Baylor as a lower seed in the tourney.
Need to get it together and start playing better, but I would not give up on this group just yet. the COC loss is hard to fathom, but there is a lot of talent and we still have the opportunity to have a nice season.
I would give my left leg if this team can get an 8-12 seed in the NCAA tournament. If we can't beat NW or CofC at home, how are we gonna beat OSU, ISU, KSU at home?
Lots of improvement is needed. Next Friday night is a must win game for this team to even have a chance at the Dance.
because that's the way basketball go?
we are certainly not off to a good start, but every game is a different event. hopefully we get it together and protect home court in conference play.
we absolutely have the talent to be an NCAA team.
Typical Scott Drew team. Low basketball IQ, undisciplined play, etc. Not sure why anybody is surprised at this point. I'm keeping my expectations low and enthusiasm tempered this year as I've been burned way too many times in the past with his teams. I'm thankful we have Drew and hope be stays here until he decides to retire but this is what I've come to expect now.
