my sister (who went to Baylor) was rooting for SDSU. Seriously.
They were the same as last week...you can't please everybody.
because of ugly uniforms? Really?
Shame on your sister. These unis are the best marketing idea in a long time. Kudos to Adidas and Baylor! My two young nephews in California have never cared about Baylor, but now they both want "highlighter" jerseys and root for Baylor. One is a top caliber track star as a freshman. I'd say that's a great thing, wouldn't you?
My trendy California nieces went shopping for shoes and said they wanted them as bright as possible - like Baylor. First time I've heard Baylor in anon-sports reference.
If 16-18 year old athletes like them, I like them.
They are not any uglier that they were when we defeated K-State in 2nd round of the Big XII tourney. Don't think we had a choice since they we designed by the manufacturer and given to us as a special deal.. They are pretty bad, but the green one's a even worse.
The women's ugly gray "special" unis we not any better, IMO.
I agree. I pretty much told her I was ashamed of her. However, in her defense she did cuss out LSU fans when we played them in the Super Regional at Baton Rouge back in the day...
Girls are weird, though. I know some girls that will intentionally either root for or against a team depending on their colors ("well, I have to root for SC because they have Chi Omega colors!").
At least she will always know when Baylor is on TV.
Bad press better than no press? People are at least talking about them bringing attention to Baylor.
Yeah, we don't nor should we market ourselves from a branding standpoint to our alumni. It's the national audience that doesn't know Baylor we need to get the attention from. Our alumni are already sold on BU. Marketing efforts with them are focused on keeping them connected to their alma mater. From a branding standpoint, what Adidas is doing is great! Gets people to pay attention to a small school they would normally have never cared about, and it helps sustain and to an extent validate our success.
If an apparel company is investing in you by giving you their latest and greatest and most unique, then that tells the masses that you are for real and not a flash in the pan phenomenon.
Pro Ecclesia, Pro Mundus
think I heard the announcers call game last nite, Jackrabbits vr the Highlighters! Pretty good I thought . . .
Look at the McDonalds AA jerseys this year. All they need is a sic'em on the front. Tell your sister to go cheer for UT or A&M if she cares that much about unis. We don't need fans like that. I think the black ones are even better.
I hate the unis. That said, I'm 35. Whether I like them or not is irrelevant. If the kids like them, it's a smart damn move. Because the country is talking about them.
I heard that too!
And in the Houston Chron this morning, all about what Charles Barkley was saying about our uniforms.
So, we are getting the attention that someone wanted. Women dye their hair bright RED for the same reason. To be truthful, I am a senior, and I love these uniforms.
What can I say.
I had about 15 people comment to me about the uniforms. All the white over 30 guys hated them. All the black guys and white guys younger than 20 loved them.
You tell me which is more important for basketball...
This. This. This. I would NOT be caught dead wearing one, but I'd sure as heck buy a couple for my nephews!
New York Daily News has declared them the worst uniforms in history. How's that for publicity?

We were one of 12 adidas teams in the tournament. Only 9 remain :BU, Notre Dame, Louisville, Indiana, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Kansas, NC state, and St Mary's remain.
Other than St Mary's, these are known basketball schools. Adidas is helping to develop our national brand. We'd be stupid not to utilize this chance they gave us.
I completely understand the purpose of the uniforms, and it is working. The target audience loves them, and Baylor is getting more nation wide coverage. I personally don't like them, but I'm not supposed to. And, we haven't lost wearing the highlighter unis yet.
I don't know why we're trying to market to California kids. Gays and Asians don't play football or hoops.
You should have saved that for your 1000th post. It's a doozie.
Jeez. Good to see I haven't been missing anything since I put X on ignore.
