This is a sad day. I bought many a keg of Keystone Light at that HEB. RIP old friend.
/looks into getting a Twin Peaks franchise to put on that site
Many memories walking down to HEB from my second floor apartment in a house next to the fire station on 10th and Speight.
Some of my greatest memories are walking through that parking lot on my way to and from scruffs
Whaaaa!!! This one and the Valley Mills location were my go to places!! Both are going...I guess the new and improved will be taking over.
Moment of silence for a place that served me well...:-(
I heard about this last fall. That seems to leave a gap in the area around Baylor for a grocery store. Lots of condos/apartments/houses in that area with no close grocery once this happens. This will date me, but when i was at Baylor there was a grocery called Tusa's on LaSalle. Seems like there would be enough demand for a grocery store in the area around Baylor.
Ultimate melting pot. Sorority girls who drove 1.5 blocks to get there in their Bimmers and folks who walked 8 blocks from their project too.
Totally agree about the gap this leaves. I've got to think it was wildly profitable.
I had heard the same thing last fall as well. It's so convenient to drive a few blocks than a few miles down the road for groceries or weekend supplies.
Literally you made me laugh out loud.
This blows. I was in there Saturday with my Frosh daughter telling her how weird it was that both of her parents would shop there while students. Progress? Not cool.
Sorry. Not going to miss it.

I loved going through the beer aisle on a Friday night and seeing them all sold out of whatever was on sale. Usually a 30 pack of Keystone or Natty light. Cheap beer that college kids drink
Can't imagine campus without it.
Pouring a little of my drank out for my fallen homie.

Is that Brand X beer I see on the ground. You damn right it is.
Black label generic beer from the Ghetto HEB got us through many a night.
I walked there from my place at Lou Ann Condos almost daily. Sad day...
Some of the weirdest things there that you could only get the generic version of. Like Hershey's syrup. Nope, all they had was Chucky's Chocolaty Topping or something. Really?
Used to love going in and buying few 30s and cleaning out that cooler of all the cold Boone's farm in the ridiculous flavors (Blue Hawaiian, etc) and going to start an impromptu rager somewhere. You'll be missed Ghetto HEB. Not really, but whatevs.
That is what made it great. Finding crap you've never seen before. It was like going to another country and seeing the cheapest of the cheap and only the cheapest.
Anyone remember Jerry the tranny that worked there?
Man I'm sad to see that place go, it was so dang convenient for so many reasons.
Lol Willis, might want to reconsider mentioning trannies and then leaving us hanging with ambiguous reasons why it was convenient!
