When you go after elite players - which he is - others are going to go after him also. Hopefully our early relationship and success with OL development works to our advantage and he becomes a Bear.
EDIT - read too fast - thought it was Rami not Romar.

I think this is a DL prospect that was scheduled to visit Baylor - Romar - not the OL prospect - Rami Hammad.
Consider JKB pissed LSU and Texas will be by next week both like OU are expected to offer.
We could have been locked Romar up. I've been telling people for months this kid is the most under-rated D-linemen in the NATION. Yes the NATION..
He would get doubled and triple teamed every game and still make plays. He plays with a mean streak if you watch him in person he looks like he wants to hurt the players on the other team (nothing dirty just physical)
It's a real shame that we didn't jump on him when we had the chance, especially as a couple of our other commits are looking shaky so we may end up with more spots open than we thought. Hopefully he still takes a visit here and has a great time and we can hold off the big boys, but the competition is now very stiff.
while i see your point, and I don't completely disagree with you, if we had offered Romar months and months ago, and he'd committed, there's no guarantee that he wouldnt seriously consider, and possibly jump ship, to the likes of OU, LSU, and UT once they came calling late in the game. you're obviously really new to following Baylor recruiting, and the above scenario has played out on at least one player, every year Briles has been here (and many more before Briles got here). it's happening, as we speak, with Hammad.
the facts still are that Baylor has been developing a relationship with Romar (based on what i've read) for a while now. They've invited him to take an official visit, and they've planned on offering him on said visit. yeah, i would loved to have offered him by now, but you can't convince me that it would've kept him from showing big interest in the big name programs, once they came in late.
Did he just get his grades? It isn't like PA is an unknown 1A school like Jimmy Wilkerson attended.
that's the thing. the competition would've been stiff once OU, LSU, and UT entered the picture anyway...whether we offered him months ago or not. Nila Kasitati, Zach Sanchez, Adrian Colbert, and Rami Hammad are just a few examples of that.
I totally agree with you there and we have seen this play out before. My feeling is that we might've been in a better situation had we offered him sooner and built that relationship stronger rather than doing it after these guys have offered. It probably wouldn't have made much of a difference, if any, at the end of the day.
yeah, i wish we would've offered him earlier as well, but mainly for the reason that he seemed like a really good player, at a position that we've struggled with for a really long time. that said, i think our staff are outstanding recruiters, and i'll continue to operate under the assumption that they know what they're doing.
JKB, you've got every reason to be peeved on this though, especially since you seem to have a personal connection to Romar. just wanted to make sure you knew i wasn't saying that your irritation with the situation was misguided.
Bro I dont take stuff on here personal I enjoy and value each of your opinions. By the way Romar now has a commitable offer.
