I thought things might get better after reading months and months about aggie. And then it went from bad to worse, when Johnny football became mentioned for the Heisman.
Then Alabama. and finally the Heisman award. You would have thunk he won the Presidency of the US.
Oh well, now it was over. Wrong. So I get my paper, open it to the sports, see the article about the AP All Americans, and the headlines and the contents were all about the aggies, and a small mention, one liner, about Terrance Williams also having won.
That proved their absolute prejudice, one final time, as if I didn't know. So after 35 years of being a loyal subscriber, a commercial customer advertising weekly, I discontinued my subscription. Lo and behold, I noticed the rate being asked went from $260 a year last year to $360. this year. In one year, for a crappy newspaper that is regressing!
So, I called them, and they asked why? I took the time to tell them about the total prejudiced coverage of aggy, and I was sick of it.
I called the Waco Tribune and subscribed. It is coming late, but by gawd, I can read about Baylor. See, I like fair reporting. But the Houston rag was becoming a communist liberal propaganda machine, on top of the aggy reporting. I am happy now, reading about my Baylor Bears.
I like having my newspaper and coffee early in the morning, as I live on the computer for a living, and don't wish to read news there.
My money won[t hurt them much, but it was the only vote I had. I exercised it.
HA! This is great.
I wonder how many Aggies quit the paper when Baylor made it's big hoops run in 2010. They were all over us during that.
Well done sir, well done.
Atta boy, RealBear. Makes me want to subscribe just so I can cancel. Good job.
That is a funny story Real Bear. My Aggie father has complained about the Chronicle being a liberal rag biased toward the Longhorns over the years. I would be curious how your Aggie buddy feels about the Chronicle.
The Chron and the SA Express-News are identical in terms of sports coverage. Same reporters, same stories, etc. They just shoot things back and forth to each other. Lazy reporting.....much like the DMN. The Chron and E-N are both Aggie/Longhorn centric. I don't read either, unless they happen to come up in a Google search.
i don't know about the San Antonio Express-News, but you're wrong about the Chronical. UT, and to some extent UofH, are the only two other schools, besides agsy, that the Chron has even remotely covered the past few years. My folks are not aggies or longhorns, but they've both commented on how over-the-top the Chron has gone with their agsy reporting recently.
their sports section has been terrible for a really long time though.
The E-N probably covers UT a bit more due to proximity. But if you look at who is writing the articles, they are the same people for the E-N and the Chron. Particularly when it comes to Aggy.
Express News is awful. Last year I gave the guy at HEB trying to sell me a subscription a piece of my mind since he was wearing a UT hat! This was right after we had beat them for two years in a row. He did not like me very much. Newspapers are dying because of the internet.
You are correct BUGrad95. All the articles are shared. Heavy UT and A&M ...but that is their reader market.
Just think how Rice feels. They are a hometown team and get almost no coverage.
Agree all around. What they do pick up on the Bears is rehashed stuff from others.
Yep. Generally an AP story.
What's a newspaper?
"What's a newspaper? "
uh, well, I guess if it's the Houston Chronicle, it's just something to wipe your butt on!!
It's that papery stuff on the bottom of the birdcage. The perfect use for todays papers.
