Let's hope some coach can harness at least 90% or so of Petty's talent for next season???

Have any of you guys seen him throw a fade yet in practice? Similar to the one that Nick threw Goodley vr ucla?

With an arm as strong as Petty's when he learns to throw that, well, he'll be soooo dangerous imo then ..... gonna be hard for him to learn to take a little off his passes when he's supposed to but he will

Not necessarily expecting a top 3 national offense, but I really think folks (including me) are going to very impressed with our offense this year. And I think the schedule is very favorable for us to. To play Aug. 31 - Wofford, Sept. 7 - Buffalo, then an off week, then Sept. 21 - ULM, then another off week, then Oct. 5 - West Virginia, then Oct. 12 - at Kansas State, Oct. 19 - Iowa State at Homecoming, and then Oct. 26 at Kansas means we'll have 7 games that we will probably be favored in (we'll see about KState) plus 2 off weeks before we play OU.

Petty and the rest of the offense will have a ton of time to gel before the last 5 games of OU, Tech, OSU, TCU, and Texas.

I'm really starting to get excited about next season... if our defense will continue to improve.

Have to disagree DBYRD..no offense, even the players don't agree with you..talked to a good friend who is one of our best IR's and he said the one thing Bryce still needs to get more work on is his touch on his long balls as he said "hasn't connected with Bryce on one long ball yet in scrimmage".

To say he has 'looked lethal' is a huge over statement, don't get me wrong I have liked what I have seen from Bryce in practice so far, but to say he is "lethal" so far is just wrong. Manageable? Yes..but not lethal (at least not yet ).

Wait, when did coaches ever fire live bullets at players in practice?

i completely agree that there are a ton of "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" kids out there, but here's my objective view on the Petty situation.

i won't make any declarations on how good or bad he'll be this season, but the three things that give me a lot of encouragement are these.

1.) all the physical tools you can ask for
2.) great mindset from having to deal w/ dissapointment of not winning job last year, sucking that up, and playing his role on the team
3.) his dedication to go the extra mile to get better at the position (this was his 2nd visit with Whitfield) even after he's been named the starter

i certainly hope those three things translate into good play on the field, but i definitely think that it's fair to say that all three of them are a really good place to start.

Assuming an adequate arm, including the release, judgment and decision making are the key elements to quarterbacking. Add in quick feet and the success ratio climbs, and then every additional component after that adds to the formula. But judgment and decision making for QBs and Point Guards separate out the really successful ones from the ones who have flash and dash but are subject to crash. And, I might add, it is more than intelligence and more than sound fundamentals. The best practice field quarterback I have ever seen was Hayden Fry, but he played behind two All Conference players, the latter of whom was an All American, Adrian Burk and Larry Isbell, because he just could not replicate on game day what he could the other five days of the week.

His intelligence and knowledge of the game was equal to or superior to both, and his fundamentals were flawless -- that made him an outstanding coach, but except for a game to open his senior year, never a starting quarterback.

I have high hopes for Petty, and I think that he will deliver on those expectations. But if it is a judgment matter that is at issue, that will have to be addressed by the time conference time rolls around. Those behind him have far less time in the system and are impossibly young, but judgment under the stress of competition does not necessarily militate against their use should it come to that. I don't think that it will.
