ODB reports: New Unis

  • ryanmetz said...

Also, i'm sure there will be some uni combos and new uni/sideline gear additions that i won't like at all, but i'm not gonna let that blind me to the fact that this is a fantastic thing for our program and university.

That's probably the case for most people and you're never going to please everyone but this kind of stuff is nothing but greatness for Baylor. Electricity (I think Nike calls it Volt) football uniforms???

    lancebu

  • This is a hiluge deal for Baylor. It means that we'll have access to te latest uni designs and will have greater access to customly designed unis by Nike. Also elevates your chances of being selected for pro combat rivalry unis (special pro combat designs ala Mich St.). Recruits notice this sort of thing big time.

POR-SHA not POR-SHHH. I never understood why it is so complex for people. And the font and script are TMed, whomever used the crest is in violation.

She said Poor She instead of Poor Sha. I shared her with 3 other people and wanted to fire her every day, just for that, outside of her poor work habits and wearing of stretched beyond pants.

Yeah, that would be uber annoying. I used to go to club meetings and you would have these guys driving 250k GT3Rs talking about their Porshhhhhh, that used to make me want to steal their keys.

  • Really need to figure out what you guys do for a living and get some of that action.

this is what i was afraid of when this was announced. as a Baylor fan, you should be excited about this news because it is HUGE for our program. if NIke is going to put more support behind our program, then it will greatly increase our exposure, which is a great thing for Baylor.

yeah, you may not like whatever new uni combos we get, but that's like being pissed off that someone gave you a new Porshe b/c you don't like the color of the spedometer needle.

Uniforms just don't get me going. As I mentioned in my post, I bet it will help recruiting. That's cool. Don't expect me, or anyone, to get excited about it. If you think it's important, celebrate the other folks that do. I'll continue to get excited about our stadium, results on the field, recruiting, and other sports.

My response to you is I didn't mention ANYWHERE in my post that I was "pissed off" so please don't all fired up over nothing.

I used to repair them. I have had about a half dozen older ones and at one point I owned a track car. I assure you mine weren't that glamorous but you can easily buy used ones in great shape for very reasonable prices.

the Porsche remark was an analogy, and i'm not fired up. also, i never said you were pissed off.

also, this new Nike announcement is about so much more than just uniforms. it is 100% about exposure, and if recruiting and results on the field get you excited, then this should absolutely get you excited. Uniforms are a huge deal to HS players, so this is directly related to our recruiting, which is directly related to our results on the field.

honestly, i don't get all wrapped up in uniforms, like a bunch of others do, but being a top program in Nike's eyes is a big deal for the exposure of our program. if you see this as solely a "uniform" thing, then you're definitely entitled to that opinion. the truth of the matter is that this is so much more significant than uniforms though.

What you're missing is that this goes well beyond how you or I feel about uniforms. It's a status upgrade for the program with a major outfitter that is a heavy hitter in athletics. It further shapes national perception of the program. I don't like most of Boise's uniforms that Nike does with them, but the fact that they do them advertises the program as a top tier program worth Nike's efforts and attention. It means a lot more than just a uniform combo we roll out on a given game.

And you can take your own advice you know. If you're not excited about it, then complain about it with other folks that share your viewpoint. We'll continue to get excited about ALL things that benefit the program.

Like I said in previous post, some people jump at an opportunity to throw cold water on people's enthusiasm. Was it even necessary to say "This doesn't excite me"? Why say that if it serves no purpose but to take a crap on good news for the program? Find people who share your views, get together and complain to each other all day long. Just don't make the effort to advertise your dissatisfaction of good news.

  • I must say that this kind of thing excites me. I recognize the recruiting benefits of forward-thinking uniforms, of course, but I also just generally enjoy BU uniforms and fan apparel.

As far as fan apparel goes, I love Adidas BU stuff. Their golf shirts are Cut to fit my shape better. Nike stuff always feels small and restrictive on me.

With regards to uniforms though, Nike is the standard by which all others are evaluated. Thrilled to be with them and can't wait to see what this elevation does to our on-field, as well as off-field, look.

I like the Adidas golf shirts as well.

Nike is always a size smaller.

  • I think getting new and interesting unis is cool. My only hope is that we never wear yellow jerseys and yellow pants ala West Virginia. It makes my eyes bleed. I will still go to the game, but I'll have to wear a welding helmet.
