Quincy Russell

  • Sounds like he is unsure of going to OU now, wish we could find a way to get him to start looking at us again. I know the coaching staff was high on him, and for a while he was high on Baylor as well(before OU offered)

    Confusing times for Quincy Russell

For Quincy Russell (6’5, 305, 5.1) of Trinity Valley Community College, Texas, these are confusing times.

  • I think Brian said it would never work out because of grades

  • Sounds like he will still be a Sooner. Just needs the new coach to reassure him.

But I was thinking about this situation this morning. I had heard through the grapevine that OU would be firing AT LEAST one of their assistant coaches about 3 weeks ago. But that they would not make the move until after signing day. Well signing day comes and goes and a week later they fire 3 assistant coaches.
I was wondering if they had told the recruits that they would be making changes before the kids signed their LOIs. Well this article answers that question.

That is some bush league BS to not tell kids this stuff until after they've signed. OU fired their OL and their DL coaches. If Savage had of known the coach he thought he was going to play for was not going to be there would that have changed his mind?

Bad business, Bob. Hope it comes back to bite him.

That's when you see a ton of players transfer out like their back up QB and Brandon Williams. I agree with you X, it's a shady business. Coaches can leave, fire others and do what they wish, but the kids have to suffer with it before they even get on campus.

  • Actually, is Savage in the same situation as Quincy? Where he graduates from JUCO in May and could actually enroll at the school of is choosing if he didn't feel it with the new OL coach?

  • I don't know the rule on this. I know that at one time the NCAA considered adopting a rule that if a HC was changed out between commitment day and fall entry the commit would have the option to switch, but I don't know if it was ever adopted.

It is a bit of a meaningless rule change if it were adopted. By the time NSD is over, virtually everyone has filled (or over-filled) their available scholarship slots and movement becomes pretty restricted for schools to get down to the August 85 limit.

  • I like the way you think mechung, it's no loco. I still say if we get Savage we win the Big 12. Probably will win it anyway.

  • Chasing Quincy is kinda like all those years we kept thinking we were going to get Quan Cosby! I think Quincy has had plenty of opportunity to tell we Baylor folks to kiss off! Why be a glutton for punishment?hammer

Because 6'5" 300+ pound defensive tackles don't just grow on trees... If it is a grades issue then yeah we need to move on and disregard the OP

  • He expressed substantial interest in the Bears, partly b/c his high school teammate MaGee is on the squad, but he evidently feared getting Searcy'd and left out. I cannot say as I blame him.

  • OU signed Russell at mid term but Russell didn't graduate by the time spring classes started so the LOI is void. Just like with the OL we signed at mid-term. Assuming he graduates, he can go wherever he can get in. Probably limits his options to places that accept D's like KState, KU, or Auburn to name a few.
