  • I think Robert will give continually, maybe not huge gifts but something all the time. He will be a walking advertisment for Baylor as long as he is around the game. We are so lucky to have him.

I think I'd make them "Happy Gilmore" it and make out one of those big checks that I could walk out of there with.

  • Just wanted to stop in and get some input from Baylor fans as to what the Redskins have gotten in both a player and person off the field. Obviously he had a great year, and between the commercials and interviews, he sounds like a true leader and someone I'm proud to have represent my NFL team. From fans who saw him on a weekly basis over the course of his collegiate career, as an outside looking in, what are his strengths/weaknesses? Any concerns moving forward in regards to his ACL? Thanks in advance for any information you're able to share. Good luck to your Bears this upcoming season as well...thumbsup

Redskins are in for a treat. He is everything you could possibly want in a football player and person. Just be sure and pray every day that he stays healthy and you should have no worries.

You should watch the old video of him running (and winning) the 400M hurdles as a 17-year old and you will get a good flavor for the freakish athlete you have running the show in DC

  • He's the real deal. Almost seems too good to be true at times, especially in terms of leadership and how sharp he is.

Wouldn't worry about the knee. He wore a full brace on it in 2010 and started 2011 with a small brace/sleeve on it but by the end of the year he was playing without a brace. He's also running 4.35 so I think he's fine.

He throws the best deep ball I've ever seen. It's funny, going into 2010 many Baylor fans thought the deep ball was a weakness of his, but as we opened up the offense more he got better and better at it through 2010 and in 2011 he absolutely scorched teams with his deep ball accuracy/touch.

Another of his real strengths his his ability to vary velocities on his throws and hit receivers in stride. He just about always leads the receiver to a spot where he can carry momentum and get YAC.

As far as weaknesses there aren't a whole lot. While he's crazy fast it's mostly straight-line speed and isn't as elusive as you might think. Also, he has a tendency to take some serious shots when running the ball simply because he doesn't put himself in a good position to take the hit. Can be scary to watch at times. On that note, don't panic the first time he takes a while to get up after a hit. He's notorious for it. Apparently he grew up watching Jim Brown or someone who would take his time getting up hoping the defense would slack off thinking he was hurt and then burn them on the next play. Like I said, don't panic if he lays around for a while the first time a DE lays him out.

That's all off the top of my head. I'm sure others will chime in.

    You like bear mace, brah?

  • Thank you all very much for the information. All I really know about him is the stuff I've seen from last season and the comparisons/analysis I've heard on ESPN. He shot up the draft board as the season went and when we traded the farm to move up and get him I prayed he was legit and the real deal. I don't think I've been this excited about a player since we drafted Sean Taylor (RIP). The Shanahan's love throwing the deep ball through rollouts/play action, so hearing his touch and long ball are on point give me hope. I think everyone knows about his speed, I was just worried about the ACL being a problem, but if he's progressed through different braces/sleeves to wearing nothing, then it doesn't sound like a big deal. If we were able to have Grossman put up a +/- 4,000 yrd season, I'm assuming RG3's smarts will allow us to use more of the playbook sooner than later, making that mark a possibility. Here's hoping our OL comes together to keep him upright because I would love to have him in a Skins uniform for life. It's been so long since we've had a franchise QB, to quote BearMace, he almost seems too good to be true.

Something else I heard that might allow you guys to pump your chest a little more when talking about him was the reason he waited to sign. Apparently he is always around the facility working out/studying putting in 13+ hour days. If he had signed, he would have been limited to around 6 hours, give or take, and he didn't want that so he waited. I guess the deal was basically done, but he chose to hold off on inking it so he could get more work in vs. being restricted. Already love that type of attitude that he brings, being a leader on and off the field, but also knowing you have to put in work.

  • The extra hours thing doesn't surprise me... he came to Baylor a semester early, graduate early, and got a masters... he seems to have the dedication and discipline to better himself. 30 minutes early is almost running late for him... you're definitely getting your money's worth out of the guy. You won't have to worry about lack of effort from him.

  • What he's done is get a bunch more Redskins followers from Baylor Nation. Y'all are just going to shake your heads everyday at how fortunate you are to have him.

I hope you're last statement is correct. It's been way too long since we've had a centerpiece of our team that was our franchise QB. In the last couple years we've gotten younger, so hopefully this is a team he can help build, take it and run with it. Maybe if he begins to bring back the Skins franchise, we could have more of a fan base in TX to drown out all the Dal fans!!!

If I'm not mistaken, he's part of a military family/household. I know that type of early attitude all too well since I've been around the military my entire life, both as a military brat then a member myself. Hopefully he rubs off on the rest of his teammates both on and off the field!
