What a player

He drops a little weight and his hops will improve.

I believe he is already more defined on the offense end then Acy is now. He also has some handle, which acy doesn't have. He can create his own shot and beat ppl of the drible. Acy is more of a D Blair type player. Gathers is no question going to have a bigger impact and is going to be a better player. May already be. Same body type and same aggression on the boards, however.

He will be a four year player, he won't be tall enough to go early IMO. Can't wait to get him on the floor and have Austin's back.

Gathers is NFL strong right now from a couple of reports I have heard.

He will be the best low post 4 year college player at Baylor ever imo... and I base that on strength and a below the rim game (kinda) that has forced him to learn how to have soft touch.

He reminds me of Kevin Jones from WVU... especially if he can hit the three consistently.

One is always tempted to discount video tapes of this kind because they are selective by nature. But there are things that can be gleaned from this one that reinforce what we already know from earlier exposures to his game:
He is built like an NFL tight end...
He is highly mobile and very coordinated
He is aggressive
He has a variety of ways to score
He displays enthusiasm for the game
He can run the floor exceptionally well for a man his size
He can put the ball on the floor with confidence and with some degree of success
The combination of his physical attributes and his skill set at this early stage of development
is reassuring to his coaches and teammates and a bit scary for his opponents

What we can hope for, if not assume:
Practicing every day against the talent he will be on the floor with at Baylor will hone his
talent and enable him to mature as a player
He shows the kind of quickness that a man of his size must have if he is to excel as a
rebounder
He has the coordination and quick feet to be a good defender if he is coachable and sees
the advantage that attends that skill
He has every thing in place to excel in almost every phase of the game
He will absorb the work ethic that is common to so many in the Baylor program and grow to
appreciate what it does to add polish and maturity to his game

There is everything to like and not much to be concerned about with Ricardo Gathers. I am not sure that I have seen a player with the combination of his physical dimensions and his basketball skills in this program, at least in one so young. If the Bears acquire the services of Julius Randle, I will have to revisit that last comment.
