Syracuse's Zone

  • The way our kids play in our zone isn't even comparable to Syracuse's zone. They all have their hands up and rotate so much more effectively than we do. All we need to do is pop a tape in and show our guys what a zone is supposed to look like.

I watched Syracuse play a month or 2 ago and said the exact same thing. It just jumps out at you if you've watched enough BU games that Cuse is playing a completely different zone and then you almost immediately notice their hands in air all the time on D. Ashley writes about it and it drives me crazy as it just looks lazy the way BU plays zone.

I heard Drew wearing a mic one game, think it was UT, about month ago and he was harping keeping hands up and they did it well that game. It seems that was best all season and wonder if that was only game he stressed it? I seriously doubt it and I'd bet he's sitting guys every now and then for their lack of D effort surely???

no- he says "hands, hands" about 100 times per game. And he's definitely pulling Miller and Perry Jones for defensive lapses.

humm, Ashley does he say "hands up" ever?

Are the guys aware hands need to be up, in your opinion?

And, does he pull em because they won't keep hands up?

Miller and PJ3 are our NBAers supposedly, and he has to pull em you say??? humm and uggh, that's bad

  • As Ashley said, he says "hands, hands" all the time meaning get your hands up. It shouldn't surprise you that the two NBA caliber players don't like playing defense.

^^^^^^^ ;-))) yep, I guess NBAers, in todays NBA don't care about D as much! Frustrating to me tho. Shows lack of a skill to me that should be almost required to enter NBA. I know not ALL NBAers are like that but it's becoming more and more so

  • I just don't understand why we don't play a conventional 2-3. I cannot stand out guards sagging to the free throw line when nobody is there. I can't stand our wings playing up near the top of the key. I just can't stand our caddywompus zone. If you're going to play zone, play it like the man who has 900 wins using it.

Or just play man and get good at it.

Most of the successful NBA teams emphasize defense first. These kids will be shocked when they ride the pines in the NBA for not playing defense.

SA - the GOOD teams emphasize it...the teams in the glamour cities dont. You can go play in NY or LA or Miami and not play D. :)

  • so the one game I wanted us to play zone, and we didn't play 1 single minute of it.

Colorado shoots 57% from 2 feet against our man.

  • 29-9 when in the zone.

    Awesome finish.
