  • Things you would like to see Waco get as a result of the new Stadium development

I mean things that are realistic over the next 5 to 10 years. Not necessarily right by the river. My list:

    Luxury Hotel
    Saltgrass
Seafood such as Landry's, Rockfish, Fish City
El Fenix (so shoot me - I like it)
More local pubs, martini bars, cigar bars, dance club
Reopening of the Hippodrome as a live music/comedy venue
Use of Shrine auditorium for Broadway shows
    Macy's
Gander Mountain ( would prefer Bass Pro Shop but they won't come here)
Alamo Draft House type movie venue
    Haverty's Furniture
    New riverboat

More as I think of them

  • College Game Day

    roy rogers

  • Nice condo complexes along the river
    Lifetime Fitness type of club
Whole Foods or equivalent type grocery store
    Potbelly

    Ashley Hodge

  • Uh - I already have the Potbelly. Rather rude of you to mention it. :-)

good call on Potbelly, Ashley! that place rocks.

in that same spirit, a Jersey Mike's would be a nice addition (assuming there's not one there already)
also, a good chain burger joint, like Smashburger or Mooyah would be good (for the record, i'd still prefer Kitok and other hole in the wall burger places, but a good, consistent "chain" would be nice)

  • Alamo Draft House type movie venue

This is what I was thinking. But make sure it has an IMAX theater.

If I was an investor willing to go out on a movie theater franchise I would pick either Alamo drafthouse or a Santikos theaters.

Cool story about Santikos, he was a greek-american immigrant in the early 20th century and actually had his first theater in Waco (I think). Now Santikos theaters practially own the San Antonio market.

  • If Dubbicans isn't somewhere on your list you've obviously never tailgates with me. That's okay. We can change the perception :)

I'm pretty sure there's one in the sub, but a stand-alone mooyah would be awesome

  • I would LOVE for a condo unit to go in somewhere really close to the stadium.

i don't know how students can afford places like Crickets and the like. i remember leaving a blank check on the wall at Scruffys for a week and then signing it on sunday for $30, my tab for the week.

  • Great thread!

Whole Foods type of grocery story,
    Dick's Sporting Goods,
    rowing club (ahem),
    Alamo Drafthouse cinema type
    ...

I worked for that man. I know rich people are psychotically weird, but he works overtime to be an asshole. He's past his prime and his family isn't too sharp either so no hope for the future. He half-asses everything. He'll put on a good facade, but the place will be in need of repair in a year. He's very much of the mind to create a substandard product, then charge top-dollar for it.

Give me Alamo any day of the week. Let Santikos stay in San Antonio.

    Play

    Delta & Mississippi Queens - July 1999

Here are the Delta and Mississippi Queens together. I don't remember where this was. The whistles on both boats are wonderful. The Delta Queen was built in the 20's, while the Mississippi Queen was built in the 70's. Both are steam powered. Both boats are now out of service, with the Delta Queen in Chattanooga, TN being used for a floating hotel. The Mississippi Queen is in New Orleans awaiting her fate. The company that ran her went bankrupt.

  • Waco needs a local brewery that bottles stuff like IPA, Pilsner, Lager, Porter, etc. double as an awesome pizza joint like the Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA and you'd make a fortune. Plus, you'd have good beer.

For gambling. I would add a Presidential Library to the list too (sarcasm).

That would pretty much seal the deal for me right there.

Get a Fat Ho Burger in the Chili's too Parking Garage : New name "Fat Ho's and Chili's too Parking Garage."

    Bring back RA day

Blue water coloring for the Brazos. Make it look like the pictures.

  • Gambling - not going to happen
    No chains
El Fenix owns El Chico, so you could get your wish there
    Local people stepping up.

  • Waco needs more locally owned restaurants, talking places for dinner nOt lunch spots. My favorite is 1424.

    Please no more chain restaurants.

    Could also use:
    Lucky Strike
    Top Golf
Local brewery (I think could make a killing if done properly, setup like st. Arnold's in Houston)

If the boys down in Austin ever do legalize gambling...then blackjack before BU vs. UT might not be out of the question

  • A couple of things that won't happen:

Nonstop commercial air service to all the Big XII cities, plus Albuquerque and Denver while we're at it...preferably Southwest Air.

It would also be nice to see a permanent (nonstudent) residential community begin develop closer to campus...similar to the neighborhoods that are around TCU's campus. Would be good for the businesses that otherwise suffer when school's out.

There will be a local brewery 11 years from now if there isn't one before then. BearsTruth members drink free on Tuesdays.

That guy is trying to sell a lot of those theaters along with the land attached to it....company i work for was looking at it, some of the shopping centers are appealing, but we don't want anything to do with the theaters

  • Unrealistic, but I would love a TopGolf within walking distance, which uses great looking Baylor Co-eds to bar-tend the place.
